Quintero leads the overall standings of the car category in the 2024 Abu Dhabi Desert Rally

The competitions of the third stage, the “Abu Dhabi Sports Council Stage,” of the Abu Dhabi Desert Rally, which is being held in its 33rd edition, were concluded under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in the Al Dhafra Region, and organized by the Abu Dhabi Sports Council and the Emirates Motorcycle and Motorcycle Organization.
The third stage started from and to Al-Muzaira'a, specifically from Mahdhar Hamim all the way to Jarirah, for a distance of 252 km. The stage was characterized by difficult terrain, especially after rain fell on the sand dunes in the Rub' al-Khali desert on the night of the race, which added an exciting and enjoyable element to the competitions along the distance.
In the Ultimate car category, the American Quintero won the third stage of the rally, after covering its distance in a time of 3:38:45 hours, taking the lead in the overall standings - with a total time of 10:44:01 hours - from the Qatari Nasser Al-Attiyah, who was relegated to the position. The second after he came fifth in the stage standings, 12 minutes and fifty-one seconds behind Quintero, while the Saudi Yazid Al-Rajhi improved his performance in the third stage after he came in second place, one minute and 37 seconds behind Quintero, so Al-Rajhi rose to fourth place in the overall standings with a total time of 10:48:57 h In the car category (SSV), the Saudi Yasser Saedan continued his impressive display during the third stage after he won it with a time of 03:58:17 hours, to lead the overall standings by only 18 seconds from Mansour Al-Hali.
As for the motorcycle race (Rally GP), Botswana cyclist Ross Brunch from the Hero team continued to perform well in the third stage and win it after covering the distance with a time of 03:36:39 hours, but the South African Merry remained at the top of the overall standings with a time ( Rally 2) Polish Dabrowski won the third stage, Frenchman Lepin came second, and Czech Brabec came third.
For his part, His Excellency Arif Hamad Al Awani, Secretary General of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, appreciated the support of the wise leadership of the sports sector and athletes, and praised the professional work of the organizing committee of the Abu Dhabi Desert Rally, and its dedication to presenting an exceptional version of the important historical event in its 33rd edition.
Al-Awani said: “We are proud to host an elite group of the brightest motorsport stars from all over the world, in the Al Dhafra region and its various cities, its charming desert, and its golden sand dunes. We wish everyone safety and success, as the rally is considered one of the five rounds of the World Desert Rally Championship.”
He concluded by saying: “Once again, Abu Dhabi proves its ability to host major international events, with the efforts of its youth, infrastructure, logistical support, and the ability to overcome all difficulties and face challenges, as the efforts of government and private institutions combine to support it, out of a keenness to come up with an exceptional edition. A new chapter of excellence and success.”
For his part, His Excellency Khalid bin Sulayem, Chairman of the Emirates Motor and Motorcycle Organization, said: “This year’s Abu Dhabi Desert Rally was ideal in many respects. The race was exciting and exciting in all categories, and community outreach was broad and purposeful, and the support we receive from Diwan "The Ruler's Representative in the Al Dhafra Region and the Abu Dhabi Sports Council achieved an amazing success. The fourth and penultimate stage of the 2024 Abu Dhabi Desert Rally, “Al-Futtaim Toyota Stage”, begins tomorrow, Friday, March 1, from Madinat Zayed to Hamim, for a distance of 231 km.
It is worth noting that the maximum number of points during the stages of the Abu Dhabi Desert Rally is 55 points, 30 of which are for the overall win, and 25 points for winning the five stages (5 points for each stage).
The Abu Dhabi Desert Rally is organized by the Abu Dhabi Sports Council and the Emirates Motorcycle and Motorcycle Organization, in cooperation with this year’s energy partner, ADNOC Distribution Company. Automotive partner Al-Futtaim Toyota; Abu Dhabi Aviation Company; Search and Rescue Centre; Al Ain water; Government support from the Ministry of Defense, the UAE Armed Forces, Abu Dhabi Police, Civil Defense, Abu Dhabi Distribution Company, Al Dhafra Region Municipality, and the media partner, Abu Dhabi Sports Channel.
