Countdown to Spartan World Championship

It is almost time for the 2022 Spartan World Championship to kick off in Abu Dhabi where the best obstacle course racing athletes on the planet will take on a challenging new course at Al Wathba, a Luxury Collection Resort & Spa in the UAE desert. The world’s leading endurance sports and extreme wellness brand is returning to the capital for a second consecutive year on December 3-4.

With final preparations now complete for the Spartan World Championship, which provides residents and visitors the chance to participate in a variety of races in iconic desert terrain complete with vast sand dunes, we have put together a list of the various attractions surrounding the event over the UAE National Day race weekend.

Races

The best Spartan athletes, who qualify throughout the racing season, will be competing in the men’s and women’s individual World Championship Super on Saturday, December 3, vying for more than $125,000 in total prize money. The Team World Championship Super will be held on Sunday, December 4.

Meanwhile, the Age Group World Championship Beast and Open Beast will run on Saturday with an Open Team Super, Open Super, Open Sprint, and Kids Open on Sunday, allowing all Spartans the opportunity to test their mettle on the World Championship course or even participate as a family.

Health Mile

The Mubadala Health Mile was created by the Spartan World Championship's presenting partner, Mubadala Health, to challenge racers to their absolute maximum limit. Participants that clock the fastest times during the Mubadala Health Mile will have the chance to win two tickets to any Spartan Race in the world in 2023. The purpose of this activation is to bring the passion, knowledge, and expertise of Mubadala Health caregivers, including its world-leading specialists in sports medicine and orthopedic care, into the Festival Village's Recovery Zone.

“Public health starts with raising public awareness. The most important factor in disease prevention, improved population health, and all other public health goals is information. As a leading integrated healthcare network and an inspirational driver and facilitator for community well-being, Mubadala Health is happy to work with Spartan to promote a healthy lifestyle,‘’ said Dr Hasan Baydoun, Chief of Orthopedics and Sports Medicine at Healthpoint, one of Mubadala Health’s partners. “We invite everyone to come out and participate in the Mubadala Health Mile as a means to promote healthy living, as well as visit our Mubadala Health caregivers at the Festival Village's Recovery Zone to support participants with their post-workout rehabilitation.”

Myzone

Spartan has partnered with Myzone, the world’s top fitness tracker and online social platform, to make the global championship even more fascinating for participants. As part of the agreement, a Myzone Activation Zone with seating for competitors, friends, and family will be set up in the Festival Village. All participants, regardless of skill level, can pick up a trial heart rate monitor from the Zone before the race and check their individual graph afterwards.

“With such a strong and shared core belief of bringing positive change to people’s lives, Spartan and Myzone are perfectly positioned to benefit those already competing and start more people on their journey to race day,” said David Stalker, CEO of Myzone EMEA. “I’m inspired by the energy put into every event and I can’t wait to get more people moving, more people sharing their story, and more people rewarded for their effort.”

Kids Zone

Al Wathba has a unique setting providing actions for everyone, not to mention the incredible activities for children, with Sunday’s races divided into categories for children aged 4-6, 7-9, and 9-14.

Hydration Station

As the official on-course water supplier, Mai Dubai has partnered with Spartan to provide water to all competitors at hydration stations. Alexander van Riet, CEO of Mai Dubai, said the company is coming on board as part of its commitment to promoting a healthy lifestyle among communities.

“At Mai Dubai, we are in constant pursuit to promote an active lifestyle and are keen to join hands with accelerators of wellness brands with whom we share a common goal,” he said. “We wish all the contestants participating in this championship great success.”

Ride with Careem

Careem is widely regarded as the easiest way to get around Abu Dhabi. This year, the ride-share firm is offering 15 per cent off up to Dh15 for those heading to the race. Passengers can book rides for themselves or their family with plenty of car options driven by the best-in-class Captains. Just use code SPARTAN15 for up to two free rides per account.

Food Trucks

Protein House food trucks will serve up their usual mix of high-quality, nutritious, and natural cuisine that supports both physical and mental wellbeing. Meanwhile, fresh Del Monte produce, one of the leading vertically integrated producers, marketers, and distributors of high-quality fresh and fresh-cut fruit and vegetables worldwide, will offer free bananas to participants at the feeding stations throughout the race. Participants will also receive a bottle of Vitamin Well as they cross the finish line.

Radio Broadcast

Lastly, Virgin Radio, the leading radio station in the UAE, will broadcast a two-hour-long show on Saturday, hosted by Brant and Maz.

As a Spartan sponsor, First Abu Dhabi Bank (FAB) will support participation in the competition, providing spears and air pistols at the Training Zone so competitors can explore and practise the obstacles.
