The FINA/HOSA 10km Marathon Swimming World Cup 2017 witnessed the participation of 126 world champion swimmers, including 4 Olympic champions, with a total prize pool of USD 60,000. 72 male swimmers competed in the Abu Dhabi meet, which is the second World Open Water Swimming Championship, organized by the International Swimming Federation across 7 stations that season, while 54 swimmers competed for the women's title.

Briton Jack Burnell succeeded in winning first place and the gold medal, after finishing with a time of 1:45:54.60 hours, ahead by fractions of a second of Dutchman Ferry Weertman, the gold medalist at the Rio de Janeiro Olympics, who came in second place. David Aubry from France took third place.

In the women's competition, Aurelie Muller from France won the title with a time of 1:52:35.30 hours, Rio gold medalist, Sharon van Rouwendaal from the Netherlands, came in second place, while the Italian Arianna Bridi finished third.
