Abu Dhabi Government Games 2024 Championship crowns the winners of its second edition

The events of the second edition of the Abu Dhabi Government Games 2024 Championship, organised by the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, concluded yesterday, 28 March, in celebration of the holy month of Ramadan, having accomplished their goals of strengthening social relations between Abu Dhabi government institution employees, while also highlighting the importance of sports’ role in preventing diseases and ameliorating bad lifestyle habits.

The Abu Dhabi Sports Hub, Al Forsan Resort, Al Hudayriat Island, and Yas Marina Circuit hosted the Championship activities, in which more than 40 government agencies and over 2,000 male and female employees participated, from 13 to 28 March.

The Championship’s second edition aimed to improve interpersonal relationships between employees, enhance their performances in the work environment and leave positive impacts on their mental and physical health, all within a competitive and enthusiastic atmosphere that celebrated the spirit of challenge and unity.

The winners were crowned by His Excellency Rashed Abdulkarim Al Blooshi, Undersecretary of the Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development, His Excellency Dr Ahmed Al Qubaisi, Executive Director of the Support Services Sector at the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, and His Excellency Talal Al Hashemi, Executive Director of the Events Sector at the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, in an elegant ceremony held at the Abu Dhabi Sports Hub in the presence of government agency representatives and the teams. The winners of 11 competitions (Football, Shooting, Padel, Fitness, Volleyball, Table Tennis, 3x3 Basketball, Chess, Badminton, Running, Cycling) were honoured during the closing ceremony, which itself garnered praise for its artistry and organisation.

The Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority won the Participation award for the largest number of employees enrolled in various competitions, while Abu Dhabi Police won the Sports Excellence award after winning the largest number of competitions.

The top three winners in each competition are as follows:

Women’s Table Tennis: Abu Dhabi City Municipality, Abu Dhabi Vocational Education and Training Institute, Abu Dhabi Sports Council

Men’s Table Tennis: Department of Municipalities and Transport, Technology Innovation Institute, Department of Community Development

Women’s 5K Running Race: Abu Dhabi Police (first and second places), Statistics Centre (third place)

Men’s 5K Running Race: Abu Dhabi Police (first, second and third places)

Women’s Cycling Race: Abu Dhabi Police, Emirates Foundation for School Education,  Environment Agency Abu Dhabi

Men’s Cycling Race: Abu Dhabi Police (first and third places), Abu Dhabi Customs (second place)

Women’s Badminton: Abu Dhabi Police, Emirates College For Advanced Education, Abu Dhabi Vocational Education and Training Institute

Men’s Badminton: Department of Municipalities and Transport, Abu Dhabi Vocational Education and Training Institute, Mohamed bin Zayed University

Women’s Shooting: Abu Dhabi Police, Statistics Centre,  Abu Dhabi Retirement Fund

The coordinators of the participating entities and the volunteers from the Emirati Marshals Programme were also honored for their efforts in contributing to the organisation efforts and making the Abu Dhabi Government Games 2024 Championship a success.
