Abu Dhabi hosts meetings of the Council of the International Chess Federation, FIDE
The Asian Chess Federation held a press conference yesterday evening at the headquarters of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, in the presence of Dr. Abdullah bin Salem Al Wahshi, CEO of the Asian Federation
It was announced that the capital, Abu Dhabi, will host the meetings of the Council of the International Chess Federation, under the auspices of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, Abu Dhabi Ports, the Emirates Council for the Development of Labor Relations, and Reed Al Dhaheri Law Firm and Legal Consultations
In his speech, Al Wahshi directed his sincere thanks to the UAE wise leadership, appreciating the support of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State, may God protect him, and the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, may God protect him, to provide all possibilities to ensure Leadership and excellence in the city of Abu Dhabi in hosting major international, regional and sports conferences and events
The CEO of the Asian Federation conveyed the greetings of Sheikh Sultan bin Khalifa bin Shakhbut Al Nahyan, President of the Asian Chess Federation, to the attendees and participants in the meetings
He added that FIDE Council is the largest administrative body for the chess game in the world, as it meets once every three months and includes FIDE president, his deputies and the heads of the continental federations
This is the last meeting of the current FIDE Board and the first actual meeting after the Covid-19 pandemic, which forced FIDE to hold meetings for two years online via the Internet
The press conference was attended by His Excellency Counselor Abdullah Al Muharrami, Advisor to the Vice President of Abu Dhabi Ports Group, and Dr. Yasser Mohammed, on behalf of the Emirates Council for the Development of Labor Relations
The meetings will be held on April 27 and 28 at Sofitel Abu Dhabi Corniche Hotel, where the FIDE Council will discuss arrangements for holding the World Chess Olympiad in Chennai, India from July 28 until August 10, 2022 and the procedures for the FIDE elections for the next election term 2022-2026
The Higher Organizing Committee of FIDE Council meetings is headed by Sheikh Sultan bin Khalifa bin Sultan bin Shakhbut Al Nahyan, President of the Asian Chess Federation, and the membership of Dr. Abdullah bin Salem Al Wahshi, CEO of the Asian Federation and event director, Dr. Hesham Elgendy , media advisor to the Asian Federation, the international expert & arbiter, Mahdi Abdul Rahim for Technical Affairs, and General Coordinator Casto Abundo, missions official, Dr. Yasser Muhammad, and coordination affairs, Sami Saffarini. FIDE's staff includes Dana, Director of FIDE, Kima Guriova, Coordinator of Activities, and Sava, Secretary of FIDE's Office in Lausanne.
