Abu Dhabi will host the opening round of the 2024 World Triathlon Championship series, on March 8 and 9, 2024, following the impressive success achieved by Abu Dhabi in hosting the World Championship finals in 2023. The upcoming championship is the only event within the championship in the Middle East and North Africa, before heading to Yokohama. In Japan, Cagliari in Italy, Hamburg in Germany, Montreal in Canada, and then the finals in Malaga, Spain.
In continuation of consolidating Abu Dhabi’s leading position and its distinguished reputation as a destination for international sporting events in the region, the Abu Dhabi Sports Council is organizing the opening round of the World Triathlon Championship series at Yas Marina Circuit across its various tracks, so that the athletes will finish their race at the starting line of the Formula 1 races in front of the main grandstand of the famous circuit.
The tour is expected to attract the best athletes in the world who will compete for qualifying points for Olympic and Paralympic events in preparation for the Paris Olympics next summer, where more than 270 professional athletes, people of determination, and thousands of community members from different age groups will compete.
The Abu Dhabi Sports Council revealed a new and distinctive design for the medals of the Abu Dhabi World Triathlon Championship 2024, which bears a drawing that embodies the Yas Marina Circuit for Formula 1, and a circular drawing specific to the sport of triathlon that embodies 3 axes of the nine points of dynamic balance that all athletes share: swimming, cycling, and running, mind, body, and spirit. , water, air and land.
For his part, His Excellency Arif Hamad Al Awani, Secretary General of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, said: “We are pleased to host the opening round of the World Triathlon Championship series again in the Emirati capital next March, which represents the official start of the 2024 triathlon season, with the participation of an elite group of athletes preparing to participate in the Games.” "The Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris are a confirmation of Abu Dhabi's prestigious position as a unique destination for major international sports competitions."
He added: “We also welcome athletes from all over the world participating in community events, and there is no doubt that adding individual community races for running or cycling in addition to triathlon events will make this tour an exceptional occasion that provides the opportunity for everyone to participate in the various categories of the race in a way that suits their physical abilities.” ".
In addition to the professional races, thousands of athletes, riders and runners in age groups and the junior category participate in community races, as the event schedule includes 15 categories of community races that suit different ages, abilities and fitness levels, in addition to races designated for athletes of determination. An exciting addition to the 2024 edition are individual community running or cycling races, which give runners and bikers the opportunity to participate in this global triathlon tour.
The Fan Village in the maintenance area at Yas Marina Circuit will also return this year to welcome the public on Friday and Saturday, March 8 and 9, and offers many family entertainment events and activities that suit visitors of all ages.
