LORENA WIEBES WINS STAGE 1 OF THE UAE TOUR WOMEN AND WEARS THE FIRST RED JERSEY

Lorena Wiebes (Team SD Worx - Protime) has won stage 1, the Dubai Sports Council Stage, of the third edition of the UAE Tour Women, ahead of Charlotte Kool (Team Picnic PostNL) and Nienke Veenhoven (Team Visma | Lease a Bike).
Lorena Wiebes is also the first Red Jersey of the race as she leads the General Classification.

Speaking seconds after the stage finish, the stage winner and Red Jersey Lorena Wiebes said: "It's a very good feeling to realise that I still win a sprint after the winter break. I think it was a very fair sprint. We were both [along with Charlotte Kool] in the wheels. The team did a really good job to put me into position. They gave me a good lead out and dropped me off at a good point. Charlotte came with speed from the back. It forced me to go all out to the finish. It's nice to have many sprinters here and we can battle it together".
