Over 4,000 Participants and Spectators Join Spartan City in Abu Dhabi

The Spartan City race, the first-ever indoor Spartan event of its kind in Abu Dhabi, attracted more than 4,000 participants and spectators. Held at the Etihad Arena on Yas Island and jointly organized by the Abu Dhabi Sports Council and Spartan Middle East, the event marked a major milestone in the region’s sporting calendar.
This unique event reinforced the capital’s position as a leading regional and international sports destination, thanks to its world-class infrastructure and state-of-the-art facilities capable of hosting premier global sports events.
Etihad Arena, overlooking Yas Bay Waterfront, was transformed into a multi-level obstacle course, featuring 15 challenges for adults, including rope climbs, frame jumps, spear throws, and several brand-new obstacles never seen before in the region. Meanwhile, children competed in races ranging from 1 to 3 kilometers, tackling 10 to 20 age-appropriate obstacles, delivering a thrilling and challenging experience for young participants.
H.E. Talal Al Hashemi, Executive Director of the Events Sector at the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, stated:
"Hosting the first indoor Spartan race in Abu Dhabi reflects our commitment to delivering top-tier sports experiences for all segments of the community. It promotes active participation in sports and recreational activities, contributing to healthier lifestyles and a stronger sports culture across the emirate."

Spartan races are among the world’s leading endurance and fitness challenges, held in over 40 countries, testing both physical and mental strength. The UAE edition introduced the indoor "City" format for the first time, reflecting the capital’s growing support for distinctive sports and community-driven health initiatives.
The event welcomed several dignitaries, sponsors, and partners, and featured prize giveaways including food vouchers and free access to theme parks and zoos—enhancing the spirit of fun and challenge for all ages.
Spartan Middle East continues its series of events with the upcoming “Spartan Trifecta” race at Al Ain Zoo on October 11–12. The event will feature various race categories for adults and children, along with entertainment areas and relaxation zones, offering a full weekend of sport, community, and family fun.
