The Abu Dhabi 2024 World Judo Championships organising committee adopts the highest standards for the best edition ever

The Supreme Organisng Committee of the Abu Dhabi 2024 World Judo Championships has approved the application of the highest standards that will ensure the organisation of the best edition ever in the history of the one of the most prestigious international Olympic sports tournaments, which will be held for the first time in the UAE from 19 to 25 May, at the Mubadala Arena in Abu Dhabi.

His Excellency Aref Hamad Al Awani, Vice Chairman of the Committee, confirmed the above while chairing the committee meeting. He further stated that the association of the UAE’s name with this event doubles their responsibility to continue providing everything necessary to achieve the level of success and excellence that has become the hallmark of all major sports tournaments held in the country in general and in Abu Dhabi in particular. All of this was previously achieved due to the generous and unlimited support provided by the wise leadership as part of their sound vision, which has established the UAE as a global leader and made it a destination for international sports federations seeking excitement and innovation in hosting their main events.

Al Awani considered that the Committee, headed by His Excellency Mohammed Bin Thaloub Al Deri, has full confidence in presenting a version that will be the best in the history of this major tournament, thanks to their experiences gained from organising many sports tournaments, specifically judo, as Abu Dhabi annually hosts the Grand Prix competitions. These have enjoyed great participation and organisational successes recognised by the International Judo Federation.

During the meeting, which was attended by members His Excellency Talal Al Hashemi, Shamsa Al Hanaee, Naser Al Zaabi, Sultan Al Ketbi, and tournament director Naser Al Tamimi, the Committee announced the opening of registration to participate, in coordination with the International Judo Federation, while also addressing federations from around the world, of which more than 100 were confirmed. Participation in the next tournament, is expected to increase until the final date for the start of the competitions approaches, due to the countdown period to the start of the next Olympic Games in Paris. The world’s best athletes at the peak of their training and motivation are expected to compete.

The Organising Committee also approved the promotional and advertising plan for the tournament, which centres the hosting of the World Judo Championships and also promotes Abu Dhabi as a prominent destination for sports tourism, with international fans traveling to attend this event specifically.

The tournament will not be just a sporting competition, but an integrated community event as well, with the Committee seeking to hold various accompanying events at the tournament site, the Mubadala Arena, to suit all age groups and interests.

This is the 37th edition of the World Judo Championships and ticket sales were launched last week, which are still available through the Virgin Megastores website, via the link: https://bitly.ws/3h23x.

According to the competition programme, fights in different weight classes for men and women will be held daily from 19 to 23 May, with the closing day, 24 May, being reserved for mixed team competitions.
