The Department of Community Development launches the Sports for All policy in Abu Dhabi
The Department of Community Development - Abu Dhabi, the body regulating the social sector in the emirate, launched the “Sports for All Policy,” which aims to promote physical activity and encourage all members of society to practice sports of all kinds.
The policy also aims to set basic standards that contribute to raising the level of community participation in sports activities, by identifying the challenges that hinder the participation of some members of society in practicing sports activities, and working to find solutions to these challenges, in coordination with the relevant authorities, and protecting the right of individuals to practice sports. In addition to learning about and practicing traditional sports.
All sports entities in the emirate, those in charge of organizing sports events and their venues, technical specialists in the field of sports, sports professionals, and all professionals working in the sports sector in Abu Dhabi, in addition to natural and legal persons, are subject to this policy.
His Excellency Mohammed Hilal Al Balushi, Executive Director of the Community Participation and Sports Sector at the Department of Community Development, said: “Maintaining a healthy and active society is one of the most important priorities of the Department of Community Development and the social sector agenda, because of its significant impact on the quality of life. Therefore, we are keen to develop our policies and programs in a way that contributes to Consolidating the concepts of physical health, which sport plays an essential role in achieving. In this context, the Sports for All policy comes to encourage members of society to adopt an active lifestyle and practice sports of all kinds.”
He added: “Sports are among the community activities that contribute to consolidating the concepts of community integration and cohesion among members of society. We seek, through the Sports for All Policy, to make physical and sporting activities available to all segments and individuals of society without discrimination, and to encourage less active groups, such as the elderly, to practice.” Sports and engaging in community sports activities. Through this policy, we also aim to organize the work of specialized agencies and clubs and support them in organizing comprehensive and inclusive sports events.”
Al Balushi called on all members of society to adopt an active lifestyle and practice sports continuously. He also called on sports stakeholders to adopt a sports for all policy and adhere to standards to reach comprehensive and inclusive sports activities.
The Sports for All policy includes comprehensive standards for physical activity in line with World Health Organization standards. It also ensures that infrastructure meets the needs of all members of society and encourages volunteer work and corporate social responsibility in sports.
The policy works to establish equality in the right to practice sports, so that all members of society have equal opportunities to practice and enjoy sports activities and access sports facilities and sporting events without any discrimination.
The Department of Community Development is keen to coordinate with the Abu Dhabi Sports Council and other relevant parties, to raise the level of sports participation by all members of the emirate’s society, including groups that need special support and enable them to practice physical activity and sports easily.
